Samsung launched its most powerful flash storage of all time. The latest version of its UFS flash storage promises significant performance gains over its previous UFS 3.1.

It is clear that Samsung is one of the top memory manufacturers in the entire industry. Moreover, the company offer’s some of the most powerful and popular smartphones in the market. Its previous, UFS 3.1 is also a mighty flash storage as collating to its competitors.

The South Korean firm claims that the latest UFS storage offers up to twice the performance of the phone as compared to previous UFS 3.1 flash storage.

As per the company, Samsung says its throughput makes UFS 4.0 ideal for 5G smartphones given the large amounts of data 5G phones can download and also help power the data requirements of augmented and virtual reality applications. The UFS 4.0 offers speeds of up to 23.2Gbps per lane, double what UFS 3.1 can deliver.

Power efficiency is another benefit of the new architecture, with sequential read speeds of 6.0MB/s per milliamp (mA). According to Samsung, this is 46% more efficient than the 3.1, meaning users will see improved battery life despite faster performance.

Samsung managed to pack all these improvements into a smaller package. For example, a 512GB UFS 3.1 module measures 11.5 x 13 x 1.0mm. By comparison, a UFS 4.0 module measures up to 11 x 13 x 1mm for 1TB of storage.
