Google is now rolling out the May 2022 update for Pixel phones. A related security bulletin claims that this patch level includes fixes for CVE-2022-0847 — also known as the Dirty Pipe vulnerability, which affects a handful of Android devices.
The new software update is being rolled out for Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G UW, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 5, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro. The latest update with May 2022 security update and generally known bug fixes come with a firmware version SP2A.220505.002.
The update is being rolled out in the US on the Verizon network. Moreover, the company already released the May 2022 update for the Pixel phones globally.
According to this month’s Android Security Bulletin, the Dirty Pipe vulnerability has finally been addressed in the Linux kernel used by Android. In case you didn’t know, Dirty Pipe is a pretty nasty little bug that exploits the way the Linux kernel reads and writes files, allowing malware to basically do whatever it wants, affecting the system.
The given Pixel owns might receive a notification for May 2022 security patch, if not then check it manually by navigating Settings > Software update > Check for update.
